Natalie Dormer’s Margaery Tyrell vs. Book Margaery Tyrell

It’s no surprise for anyone familiar with book-to-film or book-to-TV (or anything-to-live action!) adaptations that the Game of Thrones TV series contains differences from the books. Some of these differences are slight, while others are significant—from radically changing the ages of the characters to adding in subplots, new characters and new motivations.

One of the most popular characters from the TV show is Margaery Tyrell, played by actress Natalie Dormer. Natalie Dormer is best known for TV fans for her roles on Sherlock and The Tudors, as well as her upcoming role in the last The Hunger Games films.

When it was first announced that Natalie Dormer was cast as Margaery Tyrell, many fans were surprised because it would mean—once again—the TV series would be deviating from the books on which they were based. Let’s take a closer look at how the Natalie Dormer TV version of Margaery Tyrell differs from her book counterpart.

In the Game of Thrones books, Margaery Tyrell is 16 years old. In the ‘Game of Thrones’ world, this means she is more or less considered a young adult—old enough to marry, to manage households, and (if it’s in the cards) rule. Natalie Dormer’s Margaery Tyrell, on the other hand, is most definitely past her sweet 16. Although Margaery Tyrell’s age in the TV series is not explicitly stated, it is clear that she is at least in her 20s and at least a few years older than Robb Stark. This makes her noticeably older than her book counterpart, who is still a teenager.

In the Game of Thrones books, Margaery Tyrell is a rather vague character. Her motivations are never clear and her actions are (likely deliberately) left vague and unexplained for the readers. In other words, she’s unpredictable and it’s difficult to see what her ultimate goals or machinations might be. Natalie Dormer’s Margaery Tyrell, on the other hand, has a much firmer characterization in the TV series. In the show, it is made clear that Margaery Tyrell knows how to plot—and does plot—to further herself and her family. In the TV series, it is clear to see that she knows how to manipulate; whether she is manipulating the people to view her as an angel or manipulating Joffrey to view her as a trustworthy, enigmatic and helpful wife to be. Famous TV Celebs Who Left Their Shows

It’s something all fans of a TV show have come to dread: when a cast member decides to leave their popular show before the show has ended. It’s not a new trend, exactly, but as many popular shows renew season after season, more and more actors are deciding to leave shows before they end for a number of reasons. The reason that an actor may leave the show before the series has ended are varied. Some actors might leave a show because they do not like the direction that the show has headed over the years or dislike the way their character is being written.

Other actors might leave a show because they feel they have exhausted their creative ability with a character and can do nothing further for the show or the role. Actors might leave a show because they want to settle down and start a family; or because they want to move to a new city or location and do not want to travel frequently to tape the show. And so on, and so on. The following are some of the more notable actors who have left—or are leaving—their shows before its series finale.

Paul Guifoyle: CSI

The latest season of CSI will be the last for actor Paul Guifoyle, who plays Captain Jim Brass on the hit crime show. Although it is unknown exactly why Paul Guifoyle has decided to leave, he has announced that the season finale of CSI in May will be his last episode.

Cote de Pablo: NCIS

Cote de Pablo, who plays Ziva David on the hit crime show NCIS, decided to leave the show after season 10 for unknown reasons. De Pablo, who has been with the show since the beginning, did agree to appear in season 11 for a brief time in order to fully complete the storyline of her character, but many fans were upset that she decided to leave at all.

Christopher Meloni: Law and Order SVU

Christopher Meloni had been with Law and Order: SVU since the beginning, playing the detective Stabler for over ten years from 1999 to 2011. However, a contract dispute during the show’s 12th season led Meloni to decide to leave the show over irreconcilable differences. The writers introduced other partners for Olivia Benson since Stabler’s departure, but none can fully replace her original co-star. Roles we’d Love to See Jonathan Rhys Meyers Tackles

There’s no denying that Jonathan Rhys Meyers is one of the hottest stars on television—and we’re not talking about his appearance! Although Meyers does not have an extensive TV filmography, the roles he has taken for television shows have certainly made him one of the biggest TV stars of the day. His most iconic roles are that of Henry VIII in Showtime’s hit historical drama, The Tudors; and that of Dracula (aka Alexander Grayson) in NBC’s recent vampire drama, Dracula. There is also a rumor going around the entertainment grapevine that Meyers may be in talks for another TV pilot, although nothing has so far been confirmed.

Meyers is a popular TV star for many reasons; chief among them being his incredible charisma on screen, whether he is taking a bite (literally) out of a female co-star or he is commanding the English troops as the powerful king Henry VIII. Meyers is able to take center stage in any TV show he appears in without becoming too overpowering or oversaturated, as sometimes is the case with especially charismatic actors.

Meyers is such a delight to watch on screen, in fact, that we would like to see much more of him! Here are some roles that we would love for Meyers to sink his teeth into.

Comedic Roles

Meyers is more well-known for his drama and romantic roles—which is why audiences might be delightfully surprised to see Meyers take on a role that is so far from what he is most well-known for. A comedic role, whether as a starring or supporting character, could be the breath of fresh air from dramatic TV shows.

More Historical Roles

There’s no denying that Meyers has the ability to take a historical role and make it feel fresh, alive and modern for TV viewers. What might be a stuffy role for some actors takes on an entirely new life with Meyers, who embodies historical characters with a vigor that is nearly unmatched. Historical roles could be an interesting way for Meyers to stretch his acting chops—no two historical figures, after all, are exactly alike. Historical roles can also range from portraying real life figures (who could range in time period and historical role in a nearly endless number of ways) to a fictional historical character in a show that isn’t based on real life events.

Lana Parrilla Debunks Popular Once Upon a Time Fan Theory

The latest reveal on Once Upon a Time has got fans of the show really buzzing—and gossiping about what, if anything, the “twist” might really mean. For those who aren’t up to speed: the latest twist on this show so full of twists and turns was that Zelena, the Wicked Witch of the West, is actually Regina’s half-sister. Zelena, who appeared just as Regina was about to drink a sleeping potion out of her sadness at losing Henry, brought the figurative house down by dropping her bombshell on Regina before promising to make Regina lose everything she has ever loved and flying away on her broomstick—although not thumbing for a hitch.

What happened next was certainly rich, however: Regina, who moments ago was so despondent she thought of nothing but ending her pain, had found a new lease on life, just as Snow White and Robin Hood suggested. Granted, her new lease on life was bent on getting revenge and not on finding someone to love or something positive to live for—but beggars can’t be choosers!

One of the most popular fan theories to spring up after this twist was that Zelena was not actually the half-sister of Regina. but had instead been tricking Regina for ulterior purposes. Why did fans come to this conclusion? Because in the first new episode of the season, Zelena sent  a flying monkey to retrieve a sample of Regina’s blood by attacking her when she is alone with Snow; we later see that Regina’s crypt, which can only be opened via a blood seal, has been opened. Fans speculated that Zelena was lying to Regina—for whatever reason to be later revealed—about her heritage and that she had actually used Regina’s blood to open up the crypt.

Lana Parrilla, the actress who breathes life into the evil Queen, has unfortunately squashed those rumors. Lana Parrilla has confirmed that Zelena really is Regina’s half-sister and that Regina will eventually learn the truth about her elder half-sister on the cable show, along with new truths about her mother and family that she never thought possible. So much for that flying monkey theory!

Parrilla also hinted that there is an interesting twist regarding the “four witches of Oz” that will eventually come up on the show—although she did not reveal or hint at what, exactly, the “witchy” test will be. 5 Surprising Facts about Tyra Banks

Tyra Banks is well known as the host and producer of the hit reality TV show, America’s Next Top Model, where American women (and now, even men!) compete in a modeling competition for the top prize of being named—you guessed it—America’s Next Top Model. Tyra Banks has also made a name for herself via her talk show, which is now off the air; her talk show often dealt with surprisingly gritty issues, such as eating disorders, sexual abuse, bullying and social commentary. Although the show is no longer airing, its success helped further cement the name Tyra Banks into the public imagination.

If you think you know Tyra, however, think again! Consider the following interesting, fun and even surprising facts about everyone’s favorite fashion model, former talk show host, and America’s Next Top Model judge.

Tyra Appeared in Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” video

Did you know that Tyra actually appeared in the popular “Black and White” music video by Michael Jackson? Tyra herself confessed that she was cast in the video and appears as one of the strange morphing faces which appear towards the end of the music video. Although it’s certainly not a prominent role, it is proof that celebrities—even the famous Tyra Banks—can often pop up when you least expect it.

Tyra Has One Great Fear… Dolphins

It’s true! Tyra has admitted on multiple occasions that she is very scared of dolphins. At an early age, she has said, she began having dreams where dolphins would trap her in a pool and bump her over and over. Although her scary dreams have, presumably, long since passed, Tyra is still afraid of dolphins and would certainly never get into the water with one! Although her fear may not be entirely unsubstantiated, as captive dolphins have been known to injure trainers or people invited to swim with the dolphins at popular amusement parks due to the high psychological and physical stress of captivity.

Tyra’s Muscle Modeling Secret: Oil!

Tyra confessed that one of the most commonly used tricks in the modeling industry—and one trick frequently employed for her covers, particularly swimsuit issues—is to cover the model’s body with oil. The sheen and shine from the oil helps to create the illusion of muscle definition, even when it wasn’t there. Of her popular Sport’s illustrated cover, Tyra has admitted that the “oil trick” was used to make her look more muscular. Why We Love to Hate Mads Mikkelsen’s “Hannibal Lecter”

There is no denying that one of the reasons NBC’s Hannibal has garnered such a huge fan following is the performance given by the show’s behind-the-scenes antagonist, Hannibal Lecter, played expertly by actor Mads Mikkelsen. The Hannibal portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen is an enigma who is cold, cruel and infinitely curious—particularly about Will Graham. But what is it about Hannibal that has fans constantly calling for more? Let’s look at some of the top reasons that Mads Mikkelsen’s excellent performance as Hannibal is so memorable and easy to love (to hate!):

Reason #1: His carefree cruelty

It can be hard to write truly cruel characters without making them too over the top or ridiculous or laughable—especially in a modern TV age where violence on TV is not only commonplace, but somewhat overdone. Yet Mads Mikkelsen embodies his Hannibal with cruelty that is realistic and, at times, even down-to-earth in its simplicity. When Hannibal flips a coin to decide whether or not to save the life of someone who has overdosed in his office, we get a long, slow glimpse of one of the more horrifying aspects of Hannibal’s cruelty: he truly doesn’t care about human life and will save it or take it on a whim.

Reason #2: His (calculated) charm

Hannibal is cruel and undoubtedly viscous, yet there is usually something very charming behind the eyes of Mads Mikkelsen’s version of Hannibal. He is polite, he understands, he is intelligent, and he is able to make a positive impression on people—provided he isn’t trying to eat them, of course. This calculated, practiced charm gives Mads Mikkelsen’s Hannibal an edge above the rest. He is cruel—but he can certainly be charming about it!

Reason #3: His strange obsession with Will Graham

What are Hannibal’s real feelings about Will Graham? Does he truly regret setting him up for murder? Does he honestly believe that they are “friends” in any sense? From the beginning of the series, Hannibal’s growing obsession with Will Graham has helped pushed the story into deeper and more tragic and even depraved deaths. Yet this obsession is also part of the viewer’s love-hate relationship with Hannibal: even when Hannibal is deliberately setting Will up for murder, viewers can’t help but be fascinated by the myriad of reasons why Hannibal behaves this way towards Will. Why Tyra Banks’ America’s Next Top Model Has Endured

The initial premier of America’s Next Top Model produced by Tyra Banks and starring Banks as the show’s primary host and judge, received mixed to positive reviews. Most critics believed the show’s premise to be unique, the host and judge panel to be solid if a little boring, and the general execution of the show to be interesting for the most part—but, sometimes a little bland. However, by the end of the show’s first season, it had not only spiked in ratings but received increasingly glowing reviews from fans and TV critics who were flocking to the glamour, the beauty and the drama of the show. It’s second, third, fourth—and so on—seasons continued to show why the show (and its main judge, Tyra) were a favorite among TV audiences for many successful years.

Although the show’s ratings are not quite what they used to be, it is still considered one of the most hotly anticipated reality TV shows of the reason. But why, or how, has Tyra Banks’s America’s Next Top model endured as a staple of reality TV for all these years? What is it that keeps fans coming back for more?

One of the primary reasons is, of course, Tyra herself! Although Tyra is no longer the host of her own talk show, there is a reason why her show remained popular for the many years that is ran—TV audiences love Tyra Banks! Tyra is the perfect example of a successful woman who is dedicated to her craft, caring about the people she involves in her reality shows (and her talk show, for that matter) and interested in helping people become the best that they can be. It also helps that she knows what she’s talking about when it comes to modeling and isn’t afraid to give her honest opinion when someone is just not clicking—and when someone is shining like a star.

Another reason that the show has endured is its ability to be creative, innovative and fashion-forward all at the same time. Everything from animal props to unique costumes to quirky themes can be found in the photo shoots. Every season, new and increasingly creative photo shoots are staged to the delight of audiences, who can’t get enough of viewing the “final product” for model’s photo shoots… whether the final product is worth stunning praise from Tyra or a disappointed frown and criticism. Teacher’s Bet: One of the Best Boy Meets World Featuring Ben Savage

Ben Savage, who is set to make a big splash on TV later on this year with the premier of Girl Meets World, has been a staple of television audiences since the 1990s. Savage, who starred as Cory Matthews in the incredibly popular family show, Boy Meets World, was the central part of most episodes of the show—but there are some episodes which stand out from the rest as being particularly emotional, moving and well-acted by Savage and the rest of the Boy Meets World cast.

One of the best episodes of Ben Savage’s early run on Boy Meets World is Teacher’s Bet, which was part of the show’s first season.

In this early episode, Cory and his teacher Mr. Feeny make a bet with each other regarding the easy nature of being a student vs. being a teacher, after Cory laments that Feeny’s job is “so easy” because all students need to do is “read the book, pass the test.” Cory quickly realizes that his idea of a good teacher—someone who lets his students do whatever they want because all they need to do is “read the book”—is not all that effective and he struggles to find a way to reach his classmates and win the bet.

After talking with his father, Cory decides to sit down and read the material he is meant to be teaching, which happens to be the Diary of Anne Frank. Shortly after, Cory witness’s modern day prejudice against his brother’s girlfriend and, at his next attempt at teaching class, tries to convey the importance of the material to his classmates. He ends up delivering a compassionate speech to his peers about prejudice, about standing up for each other, and the danger of not caring and not listening when something bad is going on around you.

Although just a young actor at the time, Savage was able to add a lot to the characterization of Cory in this episode—who goes from cocky and uncaring student to someone a little older and a little wiser; not only because of the knowledge that teaching is hard, but his newfound respect for the application of “history” in real life. And that is what makes Teacher’s Bet one of the best episodes of Ben Savage’s run as Cory Matthews in the original Boy Meets World. Binge watch Boy Meets World over and over if you purchase an internet plan from Time Warner Cable.

The Latest Trials of Melissa McBride’s ‘Carol’

AMC’S hit zombie drama The Walking Dead is no stranger to controversy. The controversy surrounding the show reached new heights in the latest episode where Carol, played by actress Melissa McBride, did something that no fan thought would come on primetime TV.

Fans of the show will recall that Carol was already in the hot season earlier on in the season: Carol admitted to killing Karen and David, two newcomers to the group who were infected with a mysterious illness.

They began choking on their own blood and Carol, as she admitted to Rick, shot them in order to stop the spread of the disease from reaching other people in the prison compound. After Carol admitted her involvement to Rick, he decided that she could not be around the group anymore, and sent her—along with some supplies—packing. Carol made her return after the prison was lost and the group was separated, when she saved Mika, Lizzie and baby Judith from a group of walkers. Since then, Carol has been traveling with the children and Tyreese in search of other survivors from the prison and some type of security.

In the show’s latest episode, The Grove, Lizzie—who had previously shown signs of violence towards animals—begins to show increasing signs of instability, such as believing the walkers are people “in a new form.”

The shocker came when Lizzie, left alone with her little sister Mika and baby Judith, murdered her sister in order to show Carol that the walkers would come back and still be themselves. She revealed in an eerie line—“I was just about to do Judith”—that she had no qualms about doing the same to the helpless infant.

Carol, realizing that Lizzie was too far gone to save and would prove a threat not only to their group but anyone who encountered her, took the girl for a walk and—in a supremely shocking moment—killed her with a single bullet to the head. “Look at the flowers” will certainly go down as one of the creepiest lines in The Walking Dead history.

McBride, who was interviewed after the episode aired, admitted that it was an emotionally difficult episode to film but that she thinks Carol had no other option—in a zombie apocalypse, there is no sending a murderous child to therapy or to a hospital for rehabilitation. If you sign up for Time Warner Cable internet promotions, you can watch The Walking Dead anytime.
